Overview
Rising to over 3200 ft., Monte Capanne is the tallest mountain on the Italian island of Elba. The top can be reached by foot or by cable car (cable car is a euphemism, as the "cars" are really giant bird cages of questionable safety).
The trail to the top is about 8 miles and should take about 6 hours.

Getting There
Monte Capanne can be reached from the town of Marciana, which is located on the Western end of Elba. There are many buses that travel around the island. Tickets are very cheap.
Elba can be reached by ferry from Piombino Porto on the coast of Tuscany south of Livorno, to Porto Azzurro or Portoferraio . The ferry takes about 50 minutes.
