Audubon
A nice day with really great weather, a light smoky haze only started to fill in late morning. We were a bit freaked out by the throngs of people at the Brainerd Lake parking lot, but glad that most went off to Mitchell Lake. We had hoped to traverse over to Paiute, but it would have been a late return.

Notabon, Audubon, and Paiute
Notabon, Audubon, and Paiute. Up the Audubon trail and then down the southeast slopes of Paiute to the Blue Lake trail. Perfect fall day. Warm and clear skies, even with some wildfires still burning in northern Colorado. Started hiking around 7:10 am and finished the loop around 2:10. Nice leisurely day in the IPW.

Smoky Morning
Quick and easy hike up from Mitchell Lake TH. Fantastic views, but it was a bit smoky from all the CO wildfires. Beautiful day, regardless, though.

Mount Audubon
Great hike! From the top you have great views of Rocky Mountain National Park to the north. This was my first 13er.

Summit
Great hike with lovely views. Started from Brainard Lake and followed the trailhead signs to get there. The first half of the hike was a bit windy and chilly, but as soon as the summit was reached, puffy clouds came in and the wind calmed down. Path was easy to follow and cairns above tree line during rock scramble were helpful in staying on track. Made use of the wind shelters above tree line to escape the cold wind. There were still a few wildflowers on the trail and saw many pika. Indian Peaks Wilderness area is a gem and so close to home! Well worth the trip f you live on the Front Range.

Audubon - Second Time
This time I climbed Mt. Audubon via the main trail from Lake Mitchell Parking Area.
This was my first climb above 13,000 feet. I was 15 years old and didn't have a clue what I was doing, but I made it to top. I started from Brainard Lake using dead reckoning navigation. Hiked through the pine forest and straight toward the peak. I eventually found the trail, but just kept on my straight course. I wore blue jeans and tennis shoes. After climbing Audubon, I was hooked and yearned to climb as much as possible.

Nice summit hike from the Brainard Lake area. This particular day was extremely windy, so it wasn't exactly ideal conditions. Still a beautiful trek tho.

Via SE ridge
The 3rd class is easy and short. The ridge is long and fun. Gaining the ridge was a talus scramble. I went around Mitchell Lake to the left, wandered through the forest to gain the white rubble field, then angled right to reach the lower/mid shoulder of the ridge. Loose, but doable.
