Fun climb up the Southeast Ridge route. Then we went over to Pauite afterwards. The 3rd class ridge was some fun climbing.

Beat the heat
100 degrees on the plains, but long-sleeve weather on the top at 8 a.m. Short-cutting the snow bowl on the E didn't save much time, was too tame for a glissade, but was refreshing to try anyhow. My fiancee was wearing slicker pants than I and could slide all the way to the bottom drainage.

Via West Ridge
Traversed the ridge from Paiute to Audubon. Lamentably, only the Crooked Couloir was still in otherwise we would've climbed Audubon first. Pretty sad that all the snow if basically gone in mid June.

Route Climbed: Brainard Lake Winter TH, Mt. Audubon Trail
I made it from the entrance gate to Brainard Lake without snowshoes. I used snowshoes to get several hundred feet above treeline. Once above treeline the snow was consolidated. Departed Winter TH at 7:30am, Summited at 12:17pm, Back at TH 2:59pm.

A great first mountain. Took my daughter and nephew. Started them on what I hope to be a lifelong hobby.

SE Ridge... nice.
A good ridge climb. Completed solo which is not recommended I guess. The "notch" area is definitely beyond class 3 in April. Prob class 4 in summer too. But all went well. Had some clouds over the divide blocking most views. Snowshoes used below treeline in afternoon. Wanted Paiute Pk. too but had no visibility to do so... finished with "Not-ubon", descended E slopes.

Class 4 SE ridge
Went for standard route and diverted to SE ridge last minute because it looked a lot more interesting! "it almost feels like we should have a rope for this..." Consulting Roach's guide it is 4th class, however briefly. Recommended.

Turned around on our first attempt due to high (and cold!) wind. Successful on our second attempt but still quite windy.

Great trip in the first snow of the year. We went up the east slope, just north of the big bowl. Great sunny day in the new snow!

4th of July fun
Summitted this with two friends on July 4th. It was my first 13er at that date. We had decent weather, but as we were on top, a cloud closed in on us, and we had to get out of there. It started to thunder/lightning/hail on us about the time we made it to tree line.

Standard route: enjoyable hike
It was a beautiful hike with wildflowers in full bloom. There was a crowd at the summit and along the trail. While decending, we encounterd woman accending, carrying her little "foo foo" dog that couldn't handle the trail (I doubt that she made it to the summit with the talus). Overall, a nice hike.

Fun Trail Run
pksander, CharlesD and I did this as a trail run today, in preparation for the Pikes Peak Marathon. It was a really beautiful day. Reached the summit in about 1hr 20min (Peter was faster... he's on form!). No snow at all. Headed over to Pauite, then down into Blue Lakes. Great loop.

Had to wait out some weather half-way up and was only able to spend a couple minutes on the summit. Glad to meet Barry on the hike! Here's to lots of great hikes in the future.
