A fun hike via Alum Cave Bluffs Trail
What a beautiful day I had on my hike up LeConte with my wife on her birthday. I don't think I will ever go back to Great Smoky Mountains National Park on a fall weekend, however.
Did this with my parents when I was 16. A nice hike.

Up via Rainbow Falls, down via Alum Cave Bluffs
My fifth time up LeConte, but the first time up via the Rainbow Falls trail/route. Marc, Brad and I got up this one in about 2:50. Great day, a lot less humid than the previous couple of days. A perfect hike other than the run-in with the vicious deer flies above the Falls.
Great hike, Sweet Views. Great conditions for December.

Good work out
I went up the Rainbow Falls trail which is a very nice hike up but highly recommend going down the Bull Run trail because it is much easier on the knees. It is a good training hike though it is long and the down hike feels like it takes forever. I will do it again sometime but only because it is a hell of a work out.

An awesome day hike
Hiked Alum Bluff to Arch rock to summit. Nice vistas from Myrtle point - good place to stop and enjoy endless succession of mountain ridges. Snow on top. Came down via Boulevard, Jumpoff and AT to Newfound Gap for a taxing but killer day hike.

An awesome trek
I loved this hike (alum cave). Though the summit was not truly picture of the week worthy, the views were outstanding, and wandering around the lodge was pretty cool.

Sunny and beautiful
Fantastic up here. Krumholtz trees, the works. Climbed via Alum Caves Bluffs. Icy, though - a little freaky.

Double "summit"
Solo trip, up Rainbow Falls trail in 2:30, down Alum Cave trail, back up Alum Cave Trail (1:30). Lunch at Cliff Tops, then a very slow descent down the Rainbow Falls trail. Great day! The Alum Cave trail was very busy, but I didn't see a soul until my first walk by the Lodge. Tagged the true summit on the second ascent of the day, just to make it official.

Icy Trail
Via the Alum Cave Trail... The trail was very icy in the dicey areas. Had to hold onto the cable tightly on the way up around 9 am... by the time we came down that afternoon luckily a good bit had melted... but not enough to keep my wife, myself, and just about everyone else we passed from taking a spill

Afternoon Summit - Alum Caves
Arrived at Mount Leconte at 2pm after driving from Asheville. Reached the summit at 4pm by way of the Alum Caves trail. Got some candy from a very nice lady hiking down the trail. Ran over and checked out the other peaks; Cliff Top etc. Returned to the car by 5:30pm. A very enjoyable hike to finish out my extended weekend.
