Busy Mountain
Long Trail from Rt. 108. Good hike up starts in beech forest and ends above timberline in sub-alpine tundra. Great views from top, but trail was very busy.

Mount Mansfield
Climbed via the Maple Ridge Trail from Stevensville. Saw dozens of salamanders for most of the hike. Lots of mud and even a few patches of snow. Great views during the hike along the ridge to the Chin. There were a ton of families who had driven up to the Nose and were hiking up to the Chin. It was Memorial Day Weekend after all. My second state highpoint!

Mansfield Loop - up Long Trail, down Haselton
Weather was better than expected (partly cloudy), though because it had rained the day before everything was wet and the streams were running! Going up was almost a continuous ascent, and the climb to the Chin was great fun. (I also made a side trip to the Adam's Apple.) Someone left a pair of red poles (Leki?) by the side of the trail - where it got steep between the AA and Chin - I hope they retrieved them later. Views were sporadic due to the clouds, but that was expected.
As usual, I met and talked to many nice people along the way, especially at the Chin summit and at the visitor's center. (Thanks for the water purification tablet!)

One way up, another down.
Defiantly a difficult ascent. The Hell Brook route was wonderful and you got to do some climbing. The Rocks on the route were wet so there was always the danger of slipping :/. My dad wanted to descend the Long Trail since descending on rocks isn't the best idea. The chin was spectacular!

Stowe Gondola to Cliff Trail
On the road with the family in tow. They humored me in allowing me a quick ascent while they enjoyed the grassy meadows below. Hazy day with wonderful views of the countryside.

great all around
Incredible, very direct route, steady climb. Still about 3+ ft of snow in spots on the trail and some ice above the treeline. Unbeleiveable views of the Adironaks, whites, greens, and lake champlain. the summit ridge is a natural work of art and an awesome hike. The air was so clean snow was visible on the Whites and Adirondaks with the naked eye (60+ miles).

Fun Mountain
Great hike up. Followed the LT. Lots of fog and rain that day so we never got a view from the summit.

Sunset Ridge
Hiked the Sunset Ridge trail to the chin. Unfortunately, all of the great views I heard about on that trail were obscured by clouds. Nice hike, went up and back in one morning / afernoon. Had lunch on the summit. High point #1!

Winter Fun
A little winter fun after the previous day on Mt. Washington. Used the Cliff Trail from the gondola to summit, then roundtrip traverse to Forehead, and descent in time for the football games.
I attempted a northbound hike of the Long Trail in the fall of 2005. I ran out of time and money in Jonesville and Mansfield escaped me.
This past September, I drove the auto road up, but it was colder than I expected. I hadn't planned to be there, and I didn't have the time to hit the summit - bummer.

The Long Trail
It was an unusually warm October day in Stowe, 75 F and total sunshine. It was a bit windy, even at the start. It took my climbing partner and I about 2 hours to reach the summit from the trailhead @ HWY 108 (Mountain Road). We made a dozen stops for photo ops. The summit views were outstanding in all directions. It was extremely windy though and we didn't stay long. The hike down was hard on the knees. My 2nd state highpoint.
