Snow Day
Mix Canyon gate was closed. Made a quick walk in a blowing snow shower. The view was limited to about 300 feet. This was my second cohp for the day. Carpenter Hill in Sacramento was first.

Walked up from open gate.
Surprising views. The entire snowtopped Sierra from Mt Lassen in the north down to Yosemite was in view, with the Central Valley and the SF Bay area hidden below in fog. Really nice for basically a drive up peak. Great views.

Went to the high point up there. Good views!

Fire Road
Hiked with Devin. Temps were warm for November (upper 70's). No access issues.
Thought I'd tick this one off my county highpoint list, so I made a side trip on my way back from Grass Valley. Gate was closed, so I jogged to the summit in 15 minutes. Clear views all the way across the valley, which was nice. Came back to the car to discover that the gate was not locked, just closed. That could have saved me a bit of time if I had drove, but it was nice to stretch my legs.

Very nice quiet hike
Made the drive to Vacaville to bag my second cohp. The gate on Mix Canyon was closed. Saw a few people heading up the trail, but they didn't seem to mind us. Walked around the whole fence around the peak before finding the USGS marker, thinking the highest point were the boulders on the western edge of the fence, overlooking Lake Curry. Even though it was hazy, I could see Mt Diablo, St. Helena, and faintly see Tamalpais and Downtown Sacramento.
Easy peak, not much to it. Foggy... storm blew in that day.

Surprised by 4 ft of snow on Cobb we came over here instead.

Route Climbed: The service road/fire road.
Bagged Mt. Vaca on the way back from Mt. Tam. Very impressive views . I was able to see 6 other county high point from the top(Mt. Tam, Mt. Saint Helena, Mt.Diablo, Snow Mountain, Lassen Peak and the Sutter Buttes. I really enjoyed the solitude unlike Mt. Tam.
Walked up from the main road, the gate was closed when I was there. Did this in a three-highpoint day that included Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, and Carpenter Hill in Sacramento County.
I completely circumnavigated tower 20 and also got on top of a couple boulder piles in the surrounding areas. The rock pile with the small cairn is probably the highest point.
Route Climbed: Service Rd Date Climbed: Sep. 1982, & a number of times since.
Ran to the summit from pleasant valley rd. A nice 8-10 mile trip with friend and UC Davis runner Chuck Bruns. If you ignore the towers, there can be some amazing views on clear days.

Ok, we had to walk the last 50 feet, but the gate for the last mile was open when Matthew and I drove up there. Weather in the Sierra was sucking, so we left early and bagged four county highpoints that day. A silly but fun exercise. Trip Report

This was a twofer CoHP day. I zipped over and tagged Mount Vaca after hitting Mount St. Helena earlier in the day. Could see Sacramento, but the views to the west were a bit hazy. I wonder if all those antennae are what has caused this twitch? ;-p

Took a long lunch and drove over from Benicia. Hiked / jogged up to the top. Nice views of snow capped Sierra's, Mt Diablo, Mt Saint Helena, Mt Tamalpias and Snow Mountain.
