Glad we started early (5 am) only the last bit coming down the heat got to us. Still very cold on the west side of the ridge though. Glad to have brought a sweater, wishing I had a hat and gloves.

Summit Sandwich in August
Great hike to the summit via Aspen Grove and back down on a lovely (and ultimately toasty) August day. Enjoyed a big ham & roast beef sandwich on top as I took in the 360 degree summit views. Hiked with my brother and friends Joe and Chelsea. Saw ~2 dozen mountain goats over the course of the hike.

Over the city
Four hours and five minutes from the theatre parking lot area to the top and an hour less going down. It's a good introductory peak to alpine areas in summer and early fall although that also means people cutting switchbacks too.

Ode to Timp
When I was a kid I would stare up at Timp from the swing in my uncle's backyard in Pleasant Grove, directly below the "G". I would ponder its size and what it would be like to stand high on its slopes and look down.
It wasn't until years later that I got into mountain climbing and could appreciate Timp for what it was. I have struggled to find a mountain in the US that rises so steeply and with such relief above a populated area. The local relief of Pikes Peak above Colorado Springs comes to mind, but the steepness does not compare. Whitehorse Mountain in Washington is steeper above Darrington, but doesn't have quite the local relief. Timp is one of a kind in this regard.
As a life-long Washingtonian, opportunities to climb the mountain were few and far between. I finally got a chance with some family members on a short trip to Utah. It turned out to be a great hike with a beautiful and dynamic trail (Timpooneke in this case). Thanks Timp! I'll need to do a west side route in the snow some day...

Timp wth Kids
Took my two oldest kids (6 & 8) on a short backpacking trip to summit their first mountain. Love Timpanogos!
There was bad weather for weeks in WA so Heather and I drove through OR, CA, NV, UT, and ID. We climbed 37 peaks in 19 days and on the 14th day of the trip we did Timpanogos via the Timpooneke trail. This was hands down the best hike/peak of the trip and now stands as one of my all time favorite peaks. It was also my 48th world ultra prominence peak. I'd like to return someday and do a harder route. I found petrified seashells on the way down. trip report

Timpooneke with my wife, kids, and dad
Still one of the best hikes! We hiked on Thursday to avoid the crowds. Weather was bright and clear all day. Not too hot on the mountain at all.
The trail was very nearly clear; a few small spots of snow where we had to use care on the climb up to the saddle. There were some places where little streams had taken over the trail for some distance rather than their usual channels. This was worse in the afternoon as run-off increased. Not a hazard, but plan on a little mud and the increased possibility of wet boots (already a factor with all the stream crossings).
The trail from saddle to summit seems a lot less defined than when I did it last, but that was many years ago and I'm going from memory. Still, there's a lot of exposure and some scrambling. There are some cairns to help mark the route, but it's not always easy to see them on the way up. There's a good chance you'll be coming down and kind of smack your head for coming up the hard way.
It was beautiful up there. Columbine, alpine bluebells, mountain roses, all in bloom. The views were very good; the air was clear enough to see Mt. Nebo, Deseret Peak, the entire Alpine Ridge, and the western Uintas. I believe the Tintic and Sheeprock ranges were visible as well off in the blue distance.
We live in Orem, so every morning we look up at Timp from my front window. It's a beautiful peak, and the way it changes while the sun moves and the seasons change is amazing. I wanted my kids to be able to look out at this gigantic mountain every day and say "I took one hard day, kept on walking, and stood on top of that." Icing on the cake, my wife, my dad, and my best friend with two of his daughters came too. This was a great day and an amazing memory.

Beautiful Mountain
Went up the Timpooneke Trail with my father and 3 others early in the morning. The ascent was great, beautiful trail with amazing scenery, and the final section from the saddle to the summit was particularly fun, just steep enough to keep things interesting without feeling sketchy. What a view from the summit! Signed the register and the shack's wall, took note of the USGS benchmark, then finally went down. Only issue with this mountain was how the descent just seemed to drag on forever. Highly recommended peak!
Climbed it again today, started on the trail at 2 AM. Waited on top for sunrise, views of the valley at night were unbelievable, the sunrise was gorgeous. Stopped for a quick dip in frigid Emerald Lake on the way back down. Still one of my all-time favorites!

Got turned around due to too much snow still on the ground. I was not prepared or experienced enough to attempt the final ascent to the summit. Will try again next year, later in the season!
You weren't kidding when you recommended getting there early. Arrived at 6:00 to find the parking lot full. Got a spot on the road before they were quickly gone. Lots of people there but it was well worth it.Beautiful day.
