We climbed this ridge in March 2002, one of our most memorable trips in Mexico so far. This is a fun day out, on Volcanic Rock. After Climbing the mountain we headed back to La Joya to Hitch hike back to the town below. The Employees at La Joya, shared stories, Lemonade and Melon with us while we waited for a ride! We were partched and had no food left, we will be ever thankful.
This route follows weaknesses left and right of the East Ridge. Hike up to the toe of the East ridge, 50 meters left of the toe the route begins. Here you gain a weekness that leads up to a plateau. Scramble up the plateau, to the base of easy rock, climb up through weaknesses to the summit. Scramble off toward the South, then follow a trail to scree slopes back to where you began.
Standard Alpine Rack.
Difficulty 5.7
One may need to Acclimatize.
We camped on a windy treed ridge below the climb.
Bring all your supplies with you.
Water is sometimes available from a spring in a cleft, behind and to the west of the last facility at La Joya.
Enjoy,
Will and Shauna
