Very fine view point dominating Glacier Blanc (White glacier) in front of North face of Barre des Ecrins (4110 m.). Mainly and often climbed along the SW side : snow/ice about 350 m. over the glacier, with a final steep rock pitch (15 meters). Average difficulty of this normal route : F/PD according to conditions. Ridges are of loose rock, W and N faces with mixed rock/ice are difficult. About three hours from Ecrins hut along the left bank of Glacier Blanc

Getting There
By rail or car to L'ARGENTIERE (south of BRIANCON), then by bus (in summer) or car up to Ailefroide, then by car to Pré de Madame Carle (end of road), altitude about 1950 meters. Footpath then up to the Ecrins hut (4 hours), often crowded in summer (booking necessary !)

Situated in Ecrins National Park. No fees, high altitude bivouac allowed, but not tents. Hunting, fishing, forbidden. Also collecting flowers or rock samples is prohibited. No dogs, horses, or any other animals, unless local agricultural activities may need any. MTB not allowed.
When To Climb
Summer (june to october, first snow permitting...). But this peak is also a mountain skiing target. Heavy avalanche hazard in winter along the upper valley from Ailefroide (last village) upwards.

Camping in Ailefroide and Pré de Madame Carle (car park, end of road)
Huts : Refuge des Ecrins (French Alpine Club, room for 130 persons) 3100 m, and Refuge du Glacier Blanc (French Alpine Club, room for 80), 2550 m. both on the left bank of Glacier Blanc
