Easiest I've done so far
Super easy to summit. Part of the Backbone circuit, you might say. Was a great time despite some fog that rolled in heavily.

Nice Climb
Did the full circuit. Started at the Sandstone TH and made our way to the Mishe Mokwa Trail and around the backside of the mountain. Nice views of Balancing Rock, Split Rock, and some rock climbers. 2 hours from start to the summit, which included a few side trips to explore a little. We didn't find inspiration at Inspiration Point, but nevertheless, there were great views. Afterwards, tagged the summit, stuck around for 15 minutes and dropped down the main trail to the TH. 3 hours to the minute from start to stop. It was sad to see the aftermath of the Santa Monica Hills fire, but the area is already recovering nicely. BTW, all roads to the TH were closed with the exception of Deer Creek Rd. Having to dodge all of the red jersey bikers on such a narrow road was challenging and nerve wracking. Definitely the hairiest part of the hike.

Sandstone Peak via Sandstone Peak Trailhead. Half day trip. 1,200 ft elevation gain. Party of 5. Very hot for late November (85+ degrees)

Two-timer
Both times there were no people that I can recall on the summit or trail. Great for solitude, not so great for ocean views due to fog. One of these days I'll hit it on a clear day, and perhaps tag a few more peaks. Can be h-o-t!

Ran Mishe Mockwa to the Summit
Ran the Mishe Mockwa trail and had a great time. Saw 4 different large groups of school kids on the trail which was awesome to see them getting out. I'm sure that crazy drive up was worse than the hike for many of them!

Hellish Traffic
I left Laguna Beach around 10:30am and didn't get to the trailhead until nearly 1:00pm. After Sandstone I bagged 4 other dumpster peaklets including Triunfo Lookout, Ladyface, Saddle Peak, and Calabasas.

From Sandstone Trailhead
2nd time up top, this time part of a loop that was supposed to hit all the LPS bumps in this part of the Santa Monica Range. I ended up missing Big Dome after mistaking Pop Top for it.

Consolation Prize
The plan for the day was to take a boat out to the Channel Islands to climb Devils' Peak but we had to turn back due to rough seas.
Sandstone was an alternate climb, a pleasant circuit of a half dozen peaks in an eight-mile loop. Lots of people.
After Magu earlier in the day. Nice area, but I bet it gets hot in the summer.

Hiked through fog and mist
Hiked via the Mishe Mokwa trail on March 5, 2016. The day was foggy with light mist falling the entire trip. That meant there were no views, but there were some benefits to the weather: It was cool, and the chaparral was green and verdant. There were also numerous gorgeous flowers. At times it felt like I was walking through a rain forest rather than through a rather dry Southern California landscape.
I also tagged Inspiration Point and Exchange Peak. I visited the summit bock of Tri peaks but did not summit as the summit block was too challenging for me.
