I remember this hike being quite pleasant in the late evening with the sun setting and the temperate cool breeze. You know things that romance novels are made of....he he

I did the Backbone trail - Mishe Mokwa trail loop. Nice day, but couldn't see anything when I was on Sandstone due to fog which later cleared off.

Sandstone Peak TH
Climbed with my brother-in-law. I found out about the peak while looking through a book about birding in Southern California. Well worth the effort to discover a new area to hike.

Interesting summit ridge
I took the short route and made the up and down in just over an hour. Nice hike, but yes, it was hot, and humid, too. Surprisingly so. I camped at Leo Carrillo State Beach the previous night, like we used to as a family in the 1970s. My first time actually driving in these hills. Overall an enjoyable dayhike. I was concerned to see neat piles of broken car window glass at the trailhead, but fortunately no one was out today, breaking and entering.

Damn Hot
Hiked this with Travis and his daughter - two liters of water was not enough. After summiting, we hit the Hueco Wall and climbed some 5.10a-5.10c's. Great views from both the peak and the climbs.
Hiked to the summit today with my daughter. It was HOT!! Ran out of water, did a loop and took the Mishe Mokwa trail back. Saw a rattlesnake too. Here is the route we took, this is my GPS data saved in kmz format with photos that can be viewed in Google Earth. www.gpsmountaineering.com/SandstonePeakwithphotos.kmz

Done Many TimesClimbed this one a bunch of times in various combinations. My favorite used to be when they had a steep trail from the ranger station(now closed).
