Overview
The Saykogel itself is an unimpressive peak in the Ötztaler Alps, framed by the Hauslabkogel and the Kreuzspitze and opposite to the Marzellenkamm. Looking from the Martin-Busch Hütte south-east towards the towering
Similaun, the Saykogel ducks in front of the Hauslabkogel and the Sayferner.
However, the ascension to the peak from the east is a nice panoramic ridge walk amidst the Hochjochferner in the south and the Kreuzferner in the north offering a superb view of the
Fineilspitze.
Getting there
Suitable starting points are the Hochjoch-Hospiz (eastern ascension) or the Martin-Busch Hütte (western ascension).
Routes
1. Eastern Ridge:
- from the Hochjoch-Hospiz 3-4 hours; enjoyable walk
2. Western Ridge:
- from the Martin-Busch Hütte 2-3 hours; enjoyable walk
3. Northern Ridge:
The traversal of the Saykogel is highly recommended.
