Stuedlhuette is located in the region and national park "Hohe Tauern" at the foot of Grossglockner 3.798m the highest mountain of Austria. It is origin or stopover for trips to Grossglockner via the normal-route (Koednitzkees - Adlersruhe / Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte) from Kals and main-origin for trips via the more difficult Stuedl-ridge which starts directly behind the hut. It is also destination for One-Day-Hikers or Trekkings in the national park. The hut was built in 1868, was extended several times and was rebuilt in 1993-1996 in due to problems with structural safety and stability.
Getting there:
Großglockner (normal route) via Ködnitzkees and Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte: 996mH - 4 hours (Tip: Ascent from Lucknerhaus to Stüdlridge in the morning - Breakfast at Stüdlhütte - Ascent and Lunch at Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte - Summiting Großglockner in the Afternoon by sunset. On this trip you would be alone on the summit and be acclimatized to sleep in the high located Erzherzog-Johann-hut. Advantage #1 you avoid the crowd in the morning which starts to the summit.)
