Fun fire road  Sucess!

A great hike to get back into the swing of things. The heat brought *many* bugs out, including delightful butterflies, but any hotter and it would've been very unpleasant anywhere that the lovely oak canopy didn't protect. Was fun to watch thunderclouds threaten to break over the Angeles Crest, but not quite reach the tipping point.

Good views  Sucess!

First time back out this season, and this was a perfect start. Not being in great shape, the trail was just long enough to be a good, lightish workout, but not so long that it hurt. Round trip took about 4.5 hours at a low to moderate pace, including about 20 minutes for a snack up top. The views of Baldy and others were great. Every direction had something nice to see.

Hiked after spring snowstorm  Sucess!

Hiked on a chilly day in March after a moderate storm brought snow down to 5,000 feet. There were only a couple of inches on the summit of Sunset Peak, but Baldy and company were draped in brilliant white.

Foggy Day, Rainy Weekend   Sucess!

Crisp, foggy, misty day with only 3 hikers on this trail. A nice way to get out into nature so close to the city. The trail is easy but long enough to get some exercise and feel like you did something.

We went to the shake shack burger joint on the way home... deliciousness.

Re: Up the ridge, down the road

EastKing, it was fun meeting you and Josh and waiting for the sunset, so I signed up on SP. I didn't get the name of the fellow visiting from Colorado. Some stars out by the time I reached the car.

Cool, crisp, beautiful December hike up the fire break route. Skies were clearer than any other hike I've had in the San Gabes!

Via Fire Road from Glendora Motorway  Sucess!

Took the longer route from where the paved road meets a fire road to the west. Pleasant walk-up, near the top took the east ridge straight up to summit. Fine views. Continued down the ridge to Colver Peak to the south.

Enjoyable day  Sucess!

In the area for a conference, hiked this before the long drive back to Arizona.

The parking area at Cow Canyon Saddle was open, although badly in need of some work. There were 4 other vehicles parked there.

I hiked the firebreak to the top, then a leisurely walk down the road back to my truck. The day was cool and clear, the valleys below covered in low fog.

The actual highest point of this peak (to me) is atop a rock about 100 feet to the northeast from the metal marker and old helipad. The differential is about a foot.

The views were tremendous. A nice, short, but rewarding hike.

Took the 2N07 fire road up to the summit, and then descended via the northeast ridge. Nice hike, great views of the high-peaks, which recently received a nice dusting of snow.
