Overview

The Chablais is a part of the limestone prealps, situated part in France, part in Switzerland. The french side is bordered in the north by the lake of Geneva, in the west and in the south by the Arve Valley. The passes of Golèse and Cou separate the Chablais from the Faucigny in the south. Over the eastern crest the Chablais spreads in Switzerland to the Rhone valley and to the Val d'Illiez in the south.

The altitude is moderate : 2466m at the Hauts-Forts, the highest point over Avoriaz, but the landscape is typical with a scenery of wild rocks and green alpine pastures.

Three valleys form the french Chablais :
- the Vallée d'Abondance with the resorts Chevenoz, Vacheresse, Bonnevaux, Abondance, La Chapelle d'Abondance and Châtel.
- the Vallée de Morzine with Morzine, Les Gets, Saint Jean d'Aulps, Seytroux, Le Biot, La Baume, La Forclaz.
- the Vallée de Bellevaux with Bellevaux, Lullin, Vailly.

The mountains seem innumerable. They are relativ easy to climb but they don't be short of charakter. If many routes are family rambles, others will satisfy mountaineerers with experience. The mountain is cheerful, never severe. From the summits, the view is often amazing over the huge water sheet of the lake of Geneva and over the french (Mont-Blanc, Aravis) and swiss alps (Valais, Berner Oberland).

The fauna is important : familiar mountain goats, timid chamois, moufflons, rocdeers, marmots, bares, foxes. Many birds are visible : little grouses, buzzards, kites, falcons and royal eagles.

Children

Children

Children refers to the set of objects that logically fall under a given object. For example, the Aconcagua mountain page is a child of the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits.' The Aconcagua mountain itself has many routes, photos, and trip reports as children.
