Old abandoned customs building at the Seelücke

Old abandoned customs building at the Seelücke

In the old days, when borders in Western Europe still meant something, the high alpine passes such as the Seelücke on the Swiss-Austrian border would have been excellent smuggling routes. That explains why there is an old customs hut up there. I'm not at all envious of the customs officers that were working up there. Their mere presence will have kept most smugglers away from the pass, and although the views are fine, it's a cold place and the hut is very basic. 25 July 2013.
