Wrong - it's NOT snow in Lucky Canyon!
This is limestone deposited by an ancient lake that filled the Verde Valley.
On this (west) side of the river, the limestone contained salt that was
mined out of adjoining Copper Canyon, located southwest of Camp Verde, AZ.
On the east side of the Verde River, gypsum crystals have been discovered
in the same formation.
To the south, an ancient volcano spewed dark volcanic rock onto the
(otherwise) pure white limestone landscape.
What we have now is a gigantic geologic "PIZZA" of color.
I want some pepperoni on mine! Thank you very much!
