Zooming in on Punta d'Arbola (3235m)
From the SE, from the western slopes of Punta Clogstafel.
Yesterday I was on top of Punta d'Arbola, in a whiteout. I had wanted to descend the glacier on the east side, which looks perfectly fine now. But without visibility I decided not to do so and instead return the way I had ascended (for the record: that was from the NNE).
As this photo shows, that glacier is not particularly steep, and in fact it is the easiest route on the mountain. The route down should lead to a relatively flat area behind the rocks on the horizon on the far right. But I'm happy I didn't try that. Sure, it could have gone all right. Then again, I could have ended at the steep rocky cliffs that are now obvious below the glacier...
