Bear-S. Boulder-Bear-Green traverse
"Stuck" out here on a business trip, gosh-darn. First hike in CO, and 'twas a great day. Snow on 98% of the trail, firm enough except the west side of Green, which was a post-holing nightmare. Weather looked like it was going to come in and sock me, but at every potential bail-out point on my loop, it didn't get any closer. Beautiful day bottom to top.
Have climbed this route several times and always enjoy it. I too often use it as a training route. The first time I wondered if the steepness would ever end! Still, might try it this winter as I've only done it in the summer.

Attempted Murder
Took a sea-level buddy after a hard night of drinking. Came up from Bear Canyon and at the final push, with stormclouds racing in, forced him to almost run up those big boulders to the summit so we could get the heck off before getting zapped. Beachy was winded and I thought for a moment he was going to pitch me over the edge. Ahh, what are friends for?

Bear Peak and South Boulder Peak: A day to remember
Note sure if the date is correct, but this was when the marine was "missing" in eldo canyon. Plenty of search and rescue people on the trail. Partially tore two ligaments on top of Bear Peak but went over to South Boulder and back to the car. One of the longest days of hiking (limping mostly).

Sure was steep, but a great hike with great views. I also attempted it in the winter (maybe March?), and made it within 30 feet of the top before I chickened out since the rocks were iced over.

Up Shadow Canyon Down Bear Canyon
Rainy and fogy all day, no views on top. First hiked up South Boulder Peak then up Bear Peak. Then went down Bear Canyon and across Mesa Trail back to the trailhead. Comming down the rocks on top of Bear Peak I slipped on the wet rocks and cut my shin and got a massive bruise on my rear.

Groovy
A cool and grueling climb up Fern Canyon. More of a "summit" than Green Mountain, albeit with some bugs as well.

Training/Suffering on Bear Peak
Another training hike on Bear Peak. This time from Shanahan TH via North Fork Shanahan Trail, up Fern Canyon and then to summit. Tried to move fast for training, 2 hrs 30 mins round trip. Suffered because not in best shape and saw others running where I could only fast hike. Boulder is a humbling environment in which to train.

Green Mountain-Bear Peak TraverseNice hike- didn't see anyone until I got to the top of Bear Peak. A little scrambling needed to get to the summit.

Fern CanyonA steep trail with well built staircases, and a fun summit scramble. A nice training trip for sure. Pretty great views in every direction.

Fern Canyon to Bear CanyonIn conjunction with South Boulder Peak. Awesome hike, great views, fun scramble at top. Total perfection other than the 10,000 gnats on the summit.

My Favorite Morning Lung Blowout RunFern Canyon Follies. For full effect I trick myself into thinking it will be more fun if I bike to the NCAR TH from my home in north Boulder.

Fern CanyonGreat hike, beautiful weather, some snow on the trails. Scrambling at the end is great to get up to the pointy summit.
