On 7-25-08 I hiked to the summit of Box Elder Peak on the Wellsville Range. After determining that there are no suitable (rockless) areas to camp I curled up next to the cairn on the summit and slept. On the south side of the cairn there is a relatively flat spot next to a USGS Survey marker. The spot is not rock free, but will allow one person to somewhat comfortably sleep for a night. It was extremely windy, and at one point my empty sleeping bag blew about 15 yards and almost disappeared into the night. A full report of the trip with more pics can be read
HERE.
