Overview

The Las Vegas Mountaineers Club (LVMC) was founded in 1994. It provides members with many exciting outdoor adventures. The club came up with 50 classic peaks. How and who chose these mountains I’m unsure of. Some of these peaks would probably never get any traffic if they weren’t part this list.

The mountains that are part of this list include some pretty interesting peaks. For those that are interested in prominent peaks, they include some prominent peaks in Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and California. They also include some of the 57 Ultras in the United States, State High Points, and County High Points (COHP).

The tables included below are showing the 50 Classic Peaks based on Distance from Las Vegas, Elevation, Mountain Range, and Prominence. If you are interested in climbing these 50 peaks these tables can help you identify which ones might be most important to you and help you set your goals. There are links for each peak to information. At the time of writing this 44 out of 50 have a SummitPost page. The other 6 have links to SP Member MoapaPK personal page. MoapaPK is one of six known people who have summited all 50 peaks.

50 LVMC Classic Peaks based on Distance from Las Vegas

This table shows the 50 peaks based on distance from Las Vegas. However, don’t be fooled. The distance is based on the flight of the crow (air miles). This does not count for the time it would take to get to the trailhead or driving mileage to reach the trailhead.

    One peak off

The list does not contain Mormon Peak (it was replaced with Spirit Mountain when Mormon Peak had access issues). Surprising Spirit Mountain is on this list. The missing peak is Ruby Dome - and that is not one to be missed. Full details about the list, and the club, are available at http://lvmc.org/
