Romanka

Overview

Romanka is the fourth biggest mountain in Beskid Zywiecki range(after Babia Góra, Pilsko and Polica). It's located about 15 km from Zywiec, in the middle of Beskid Zywiecki range. It belongs to Pilsko Group. This mountain is not as popular as another mountains in Beskidy (for example Pilsko, Skrzyczne, Szyndzielnia) because of its quite different character. There is no ski resort or any hut on the Romanka. From summit - there is no beautiful views on the countryside because of the high forest on the top (only Pilsko is good visible). So - what is the reason to get to the
top of Romanka? The wildlife and the silence on this mountain. Access to Romanka is harder than to another mountains in Beskidy, so there is less tourists on the trails. Maybee it is the reason why near the summit area live wolfs, lynxes and one bear. Forest on the top of Romanka is protected by "Romanka Preserve". It's rest of the old Carpatian Forest. You can see trees which is 150 -200 years old.
The best look of the Romanka is in my opinion from west (from village Radziechowy). Its long ridge looks majestically. Look from north (Zabnica) isn't so beautiful.

Getting There

There is some trails leading to the top:

1.Blue marked trail from Bystra (by train to Radziechowy and then by bus to Bystra)
2.Red marked trail from Wegierska Górka (by train to Wegierska Górka)
3.Yellow marked trail from Juszczyna (by train to Zywiec and by bus to Juszczyna)
4.Blue marked trail from Sopotnia Mala(by train to Zywiec and by bus to Sopotnia Mala)

Romanka is not in any national park, so you don't have to go with trail.

Camping

There isn't any hut on Romanka. It's also hard to place a tent because of steep terrain and forest. The nearest huts are:
- hut on the Rysianka
- hut on the Lipowska
- hut Slowianka

You can also spend a night in one of the hotels in Wegierska Górka or Zywiec.
