Overview

This is a variation to the West Face route.

Getting There

The beginning of this route is the West Face route.

Route Description

If you get tired of ascending the seemingly neverending scree slope, and are looking for some (relatively Elk Range rock) solid Class 3 fun, reach for the cliff bands on the north side of the scree slope.

Although this ridge ascent may free you from the scree hell that the route has been until now, you are trading one difficulty for another. The climbing/scrambling on the ridge would normally be easy, but the rotten Elk Range rock makes it challenging.

This variation also avoids negotiating the ridge atop the scree slope to Castleabra's summit.

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
