Glas-alt-Shiel Route

Route Description

From Spittal of Glenmuick head south along a land rover track for about 1km. At a junction bear right along the head of Loch Muick to a small boat house. From the boat house turn left and follow another land rover track along the side of the loch for about 2.5km. Before entering the woods turn right along a small path which climbs up through and out of the forest. On leaving the forest continue qite steeply up hill to arrive at the base of the beautiful waterfall which tumbles over the cliffs above. Once above the waterfall the gradient eases and a steady climb takes you to the summit of Cac Carn Mor. From here a short pull takes you to the summit of Lochnagar. To descend return via the same route or descend by the normal route.

>Warm clothes

In winter and early spring ice axe and crampons are essential.
