Monte Biaena

overview

Monte Biaena is a small summit belonging to the Stivo-Bondone group, it has a low importance but from its 1618m one can enjoy a very fine panoramic view of Leno's valleys, of the Vallagarina, of Monte Baldo and Garda lake.
In any season its summit attracts many hikers looking for this sight.

Its boundaries are :
North: Monte Stivo and Bondone range
South: S.Felice valley
East: Vallagarina
West: Gresta vally, Bordala pass, Ronzo-Chienis

Il Monte Biaena è una modesta cima del gruppo montuoso Stivo - Monte Bondone. Ma dai suoi 1618 metri si gode un ottimo panorama sulle Valli del Leno, la Vallagarina, il Monte Baldo, il lago di Garda e in ogni stagione è frequentato dagli escursionisti che vogliono godere di questo spettacolo.

getting there

from Mori: get out of the SS12 (Brennero) following for the SS240 Rovereto-Riva
from Brennero highway exit Rovereto sud toward Mori
from Ronzo-Chienis : on the SS240 Rovereto-Riva, near Loppio follow the SP of Val di Gresta

Da Mori: dalla S.S. n°12 del Brennero ci si immette sulla S.S 240 rovereto- Riva
Dall'autostrada del Brennero si esce al casello Rovereto sud e si prosegue in direzione Mori
da Ronzo -Chienis : dalla S.S 240 Rovereto - Riva in prossimità di Loppio si prende la S. P. della Val di Gresta . Ronzo - Chienis

From Pra da Lach (Ronzo-Chienis : Ristorante la Baita), along the road SP88 of Val di Gresta, then along a forestal road till the path mark SAT 271 to Monte Biaena.
The path rises on the western side of Biaena: in about 30' you reach the Lasta (rocky slabs) and, in a little, the Capanna Monte Biaena, a small refuge built up over the ruins of the summit station of the Austrian war telpher (1° World War).
from Malga Somator along the southern slopes
here you can arrive from Rovereto following for Isera - Nomesino - Corniano (really remarkable the ancient Church of S.Agata)- Malga Somator a good path leads to the summit.
On the Mount Biaèna it is possible to see ruins of Austrian fortifications and artillery positions and enjoy a vast panoramic view. On the south-south-east side there is the "busa dela nef" (snow hole), a 20-meter deep sinkhole. Its bottom is covered by a cone of snow in summer.

Accesso da Pra da Lach, Ronzo- Chienis ( Ristorante la Baita), si percorre la strada asfaltata S.P 88 della Val di gresta indi per strada forestale tagliafuoco fino ad incontrare il segnavia SAT 271 per il Monte Biaena. Il sentiero si inerpica lungo il versante ovest del Biaena e dopo mezzora circa si incontrano dei lastroni di roccia inclinata: La Lasta. Si giunge quindi alla capanna del Monte Biaena costruita sulle rovine della vecchia stazione d'Arrivo della teleferica austriaca della Prima Guerra Mondiale.
Giunti sulla cima lo sguardo si apre sulla Vallagarina, i lessini, il Carega, Pazul, Pasubio, Monte Baldo, Adamello, Presanella, Brenta, lago di Garda.

Un Altro accesso è da Malga Somator,Si parte da Rovereto, Isera, Nomesino, Corniano ( notevole l'antichissima Chiesa di S. Agata)e Malga Somaator: da qui il sentiero sale lungo le pendici meridionali del Biaena.

Climbing on Monte Biaena

Access
From Arco follow the indication to Rovereto (turn right after bridge on Sarca river), state road SS 240, and arrive to Loppio.
Right after the church turn left on S.S. 88 to Val di Gresta.
Follow the road and at the cross to S.Felice go straight to Ronzo.
Pass this village and follow the indications to Rifugio Somator.
The small cliff is 30 min. walk from Rifugio Somator.
Note
The cliff is at 1600 s.l.m.
